Holistic Perception
To address a crisis of perception, it is not enough just to understand it. We also need to actively engage in the creation of new perceptions, based on holistic thinking, deep ecological awareness and our sense experience of the whole of life.
Perception is the result of the act of perceiving, which in the Latin form of “precipere” means “obtain, gather,” also, metaphorically, “to grasp with the mind,” literally “to take entirely”. Deep ecological experiences have shown us that perception emerges when we embody the dynamic process of attaining awareness and intuitive understanding of our environment. In order to do this, we continuously engage with sensory information in the huge, vital task of becoming aware of the sensory dialogue that each being is having with each other, in what we often refer to as the “environment”.
Perception comes forth as an interpretation of significance in the world, shaping our encounters and giving them form and meaning. So our perception is not just an account of events, but in fact, the meaning we arrive at by experiencing the world through our senses.
